Dr. Alice Lieberman
I am thrilled to support Jennifer Ananda in the upcoming City Commission election. I have worked with Jen in both an educational setting (where she was my teaching assistant), and on state legislative matters. In both arenas, I saw someone who listens to everyone, and values all opinions, even as she applies her own knowledge of the facts and her moral compass to the issues at hand. With Jen on the Commission, Lawrence will continue to be vibrant and unique, a great place to live, as well as a short-term destination for visitors.

Jennifer is a strong and accomplished leader. Her compassion for others, awareness of the needs of the community, and experience owning a local business make her an extremely valuable asset to the residents of Lawrence. Jennifer conducts herself with the highest integrity in all that she does, is an active listener gathering all facts in order to reach fully informed conclusions, and addresses conflict with candor and poise.
If elected, I am confident Jennifer will put forth incredible energy to form collaborative partnerships with all members of the Lawrence community and be responsive to those she represents.

I have had the wonderful opportunity to work closely with Jennifer over the past several years on the Board of Directors for The Merc Co-op. During that time, Jennifer also served as the president of the Board of Directors. She had a graceful way of dealing with difficult issues, was always able to bring a fresh perspective to the Board of Directors, and worked very well with other board members on everything from organizing our annual co-op meeting, to planning and preparation for projects like The Merc Co-op's recent remodel, annual goal setting for the board and most recently the solar energy project. Jennifer's spirit is resilient. She is a hard-working and dedicated member of the board. I admire her drive and dedication, intelligence and her ability to gracefully handle complex situations. As a previous employee for the city of Lawrence, Kansas, I know the importance of honesty, trustworthiness and the effective and efficient leadership needed in order to best serve the Lawrence community. Jennifer is a true leader and would make an excellent representative for the citizens of Lawrence, Kansas as a city commissioner. I know that the content of her character, her ambition and her love for our community would make her the perfect fit to serve as a commissioner.
Jennifer listens, does her homework, facilitates reasoned conversations, and is grounded by her personal and community values.
I have known Jennifer for 17 years, in many capacities. I have seen and admire her strength, commitment, talents, and compassion. I've worked beside her in business and know her to be capable, hard working and thoughtful in how she approaches the task at hand and the people around her. I've enjoyed watching her grow a family, all the while attending law school. Jennifer is open-minded, committed to fairness and justice, and works tirelessly as a leader and role model for our community. She has the mind, heart, ears, and stamina to be a great city commissioner.

I couldn’t have asked for a better law partner than Jennifer Ananda. She is smart, compassionate, hard-working, and a pleasure to be around. She is a great listener, which I think is an essential skill for every elected official. She is committed to social justice and environmental sustainability, and she has demonstrated her leadership skills as a long-time board member of the Community Mercantile. I think Jennifer would make a great city commissioner, and I encourage you to join me in voting for her.
Jennifer Ananda will represent the interests of the community in all sectors. She will seek good thinking from and listen to people across our city and reflect the best in her decisions. She is smart; witty; dedicated; resourceful; hard working and a woman I have known for years, counted as a colleague & co-worker early in her varied career and with whom I share commitment to community concerns & experience working in local not-for-profit social agencies and the business community.
And, she never fails to pass on a good joke I want to share with her sons.
Get behind this campaign and similarly worthy candidates and let's see what good things happen.
Jennifer Ananda let me know some time ago that she was planning to run for the Lawrence City Commission. I was already personally grateful to her for stepping up to serve our community in so many other important ways - in particular, as an attorney dedicated to social justice and as a volunteer leader of several non-profit organizations. I have had direct experience working with her on a non-profit board and have appreciated her ability to productively facilitate meetings, organize information, and consult with those who are both making important decisions and those who will be affected by them. She is unusually socially aware, a quality that would serve her, and all of us, in an era of heightened sensitivities and sometimes hardened political positions. Beyond her technical abilities as an attorney to advocate for those she represents, Jennifer has the ability to recognize and understand the perspectives of all parties. This combination of smart toughness and open-hearted empathy makes her an ideal candidate to represent Lawrencians on the Commission.
I've known Jennifer since her undergraduate days at KU. She is dedicated to making her part of the world a better place. Be it her neighborhood, her co-op, her town, county or state, she has worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life for others. In a signature effort, Jennifer achieved her law degree and Masters in social work while pregnant and taking care of two small children. Credit for her success goes as well to her husband, Chris, who is exceptional in his own right. Jennifer is smart, hard working, compassionate, and, yes, pragmatic. She is organized and capable of facilitating conversations to create a visionary plan for Lawrence's future. I am pleased she wants the job of Lawrence City Commissioner - and she would make an outstanding Mayor.
